There's a reason why project/home studios are less expensive. Things may appear the same on the surface (a recording space, some recording equipment, and an engineer), but the truth is there are several little-known but important variables that can significantly contribute the quality of your recording. Professionally educated and experienced engineers
Many project/home studios are nothing more than a person with some recording gear and a user manual, and often don't have the talent or expertise to get quality results. At Allusion Studios, our combined knowledge consists of formal education in audio engineering, electrical engineering, music theory, music performance, as well as experience in professional recording and customer service. Our owner, Jim Pavett, is a seasoned musician, engineer, producer, and recording clinician, with over 25 years in the recording industry.

Separate Control Room
Be leery of studios where the recording desk and monitoring equipment are in the same room as the recording space. In these scenarios, it is less likely that the engineer is able to hear the recorded audio clearly while being in the same room as the performance. At Allusion Studios, our control room is separate from our recording rooms. Having an isolated listening environment allows the engineer to meticulously analyze your sound during setup and throughout the recording process, ensuring that only the cleanest audio and best takes are captured.

Professionally tuned acoustics
It's not enough to take a room and simply throw some acoustic treatment on the walls. To record the best audio, you must have an understanding of how sound moves within the room. The greatest microphone in the world is irrelevant in a poorly acoustic room. In addition, a perfectly tuned listening environment is important to make sure all audio frequencies can be heard equally. Every room at Allusion Studios has been professionally measured and tuned by nationally renowned acoustician, Gavin Haverstick, and treated by Auralex Acoustics, the leader in acoustics manufacturing.

At Allusion Studios, you'll never have to worry about wasting studio time while the engineer tries to "figure it out". Our entire recording system was assembled by our owner, Jim Pavett, a 25+ year recording veteran who understands how to efficiently and effectively navigate through any recording challenge. Don't pay someone to use your project as their own learning experience. In this business, time is money.

Specialized Microphone Collection
A studio with limited microphones may not have the right microphone for the task at hand. For example, a microphone for a snare drum may not be the best microphone to use for an acoustic guitar. Allusion Studios has a full array of specialized microphones for any recording task.

High-end AD/DA converters
Allusion Studios has the cleanest and purest AD/DA (Analog-to-Digital/Digital-to-Analog) converters by industry standards. In these days of digital recording, this is arguably the most important piece of gear in any studio's arsenal. It is the device that converts your sound into 1's and 0's (digital data) before being written to the disk. It is imperative that this piece of gear perform conversions that are truest in nature to the original audio. Otherwise, your recorded audio could come out sounding much different than the way it was performed.

Most studios have only one or two recording rooms and are limited in their ability to offer adequate isolation between instruments. Allusion Studios has four separate rooms available for simultaneous recording, allowing us to record your band "live" with 100% isolation between instruments, thus offering the largest and most isolated recording space in town.
